A Little Bit About Me

I am Croatian that has been living in the United States for the past 7 years, and my occasional homesickness actually made me start this “croatian top 3” website. I will give my best to add something to the blog every week or whenever I get inspired like I got today! My homesick days are most obvious during the times of winter holidays. This is my second Christmas in the row away from home, and I miss my hometown a lot!

My family and friends have been posting and sharing tons of pictures of Zagreb decorated in Christmas lights on Facebook, Instagram and other social media. I have a Whatsapp group with my friends back home, and every time they do something, my phone goes crazy from all the messages and pictures that they send. This year, one of my friends rented "kućica" (that's how they call it) or a "little wooden house" in the main part of Zagreb where they get together on weekends, hang out, drink, eat and have so much fun.

Just for you to get an idea of how this "little wooden house" looks like, here are a few photos! The first picture shows the "little wooden house" and the second one shows my friend Tomba who is the head of the house. At the very bottom of that photo, you will see a box labeled with "Čvarci" that are made of pork skin. Pure fat, but so good! The third photo shows people hanging out at the main square in Zagreb, and the very last photo could represent a warm tea, but knowing my friends, I would be more confident to say that this is mulled wine, a very popular alcoholic drink during cold winter days.

Btw... I did not ask my friends for the approval to post these, so guys, if you all are reading, don't get mad!

Anyways... Zagreb looks beautiful right now, and I am so proud to call it my hometown and Croatia my home country!

Zagreb During Holiday Season

In a country better known for summer holidays along its pristine coastline, Zagreb is promoting itself as a festive paradise aiming to compete with Europe's traditional Christmas destinations such as Vienna and Prague. So if you are trying to find a perfect place in Europe to go visit during Advent, Christmas or New Years, Zagreb is the place to visit! Come and see for yourself why is the Croatian capital visited by a snowballing number of tourists during the time of Advent; get to know its idyllic side and participate in themed programs which take place on the streets and squares around the center of the city.

Check out this video to experience a little bit of Christmas spirit in Zagreb!

During the time of Advent, Zagreb offers a unique atmosphere which simply must be experienced. An increasing number of tourists choose the capital of Croatia every year. Tourists choose this time of the year to visit Zagreb because of its offerings, events, atmosphere and because there is something to be found literally every step of the way. The city streets and squares invite you to let your hair down and start singing, dancing, and to be happy with family and friends. Themed walking tours, dozens of concerts and illuminated market stalls, where mulled wine, hearty sausages and cinnamon donuts are among the big hits.

Competing With Some "Big Fish"

Last year, Zagreb won the European Best Destinations award as the city that should be in top of your list to visit it, and this year it has the chance to win again! If you have visited Zagreb, and had a good time, please take a moment and vote online! Some of the other cities competing are from big and developed countries such as France, Belgium, Finland, Austria and Portugal. Croatia has developed into a country known worldwide not only for our coast but also our inland, our spirit, cuisine, friendliness, humor, enthusiasm, hard work and devotion to our country.

Now, check out some of the places that, if in Zagreb during Advent, you just can not miss!

...and please don't forget to vote! :)
